  • Living Green Festival kick-off meeting Sept. 14
    Kern River Valley Revitalization is holding a meeting for potential volunteers to talk about the next Living Green KRV Festival March 17-27. The meeting will be followed by two short films, “For the Price of a Cup of Coffee” and “Ubuntu”. We will meet at 6:00 p.m., at the Kernville Community Room (next to the Kernville Chamber.)

    Susan BarrKern Valley Sun Warm weather and the pleasant shade of Kernville’s Circle Park made for an enjoyable experience for visitors to last weekend’s 46th Annual Sierra Arts and Crafts Festival.

  • KVHS reunion 2010
    For the 6th time, Kern Valley High School Alumni from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s will meet for an all-school reunion at the Kernville Inn from Sept. 24 through 26. This event, which has been held every two years since 2000, draws a big crowd for all or part of the three-day event. More than 100 classmates from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona and California are currently registered for the event, and registration forms are still coming in. The “oldest” alumni expected is from the Class of 1944. The Class of 1960 will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of their graduation, and Nina Bishop Sharp has something special planned for those attending from that year.

  • Cause of hay barn fire under investigation
    Cathy PerfectKern Valley Sun Southlake resident Nadia Lane, whose barn containing her fall supply of hay was destroyed by fire, has asked the Kern County Fire Department’s Arson Unit to investigate the Aug. 29 fire. The destroyed hay would have fed the 60 horses, donkeys and mules Lane and husband Joe currently own. At this point, the cause of the fire is undetermined, according to fire officials.

  • Hospital board pushing for bond
    Susan BarrKern Valley Sun An allegation of abuse, a pharmacist’s resignation and the upcoming $22 million bond measure were the focus of the Kern Valley Healthcare District Sept.1 board meeting.
